Yogi’s strong minister Nand Gopal Nandi convicted of assault and attempt to assault, sentenced to one year and fined

Cabinet minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi in the Yogi government has suffered a major setback on Wednesday. Nandi has been convicted in an eight-year-old case of assault and attempt to murder and has been fined along with the sentence. Three people including Nandi have been sentenced. Another accused has been acquitted by giving benefit of doubt. Nandi was also accused of Dalit harassment but has been acquitted of that charge. All the four accused including Nandi were present in the court when the verdict was pronounced. Along with the punishment, the minister has also been given bail.

District Government Advocate Gulab Chandra Agrahari and Assistant District Government Advocate Sushil Kumar Vaish along with the arguments of Nandi’s advocates were pronounced before Special Judge of MP/MLA Court Dr. Dinesh Chandra Shukla. Nandi has been sentenced to 1 year and fined 5 thousand for section 147 ruckus or disturbance. Along with this, 6 months’ imprisonment and 5 thousand fine have been imposed in the case of mobilizing crowd and assault and 149/323.

Nandi was a candidate for the Lok Sabha from the Congress during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Venkataraman Shukla had filed a case against him on May 3, 2014 at Muttiganj police station. It was alleged that SP workers were assaulted on Nandi’s challenge. Caste-specific words were used on Dalits and fire was fired with the intention of killing them.
