British Home Secretary Suella Braverman has ordered the extradition of Sanjay Bhandari, a middleman and consultant in an arms deal, to India to face charges of tax evasion and money laundering. According to Home Ministry sources, the extradition order was given last week and Bhandari has 14 days till the end of this month to appeal in the London High Court. Indian authorities had made two extradition requests against Bhandari (60). The first request related to money laundering while the second related to tax evasion.

Earlier, in November, a UK court had ruled that Bhandari could be extradited to India to face charges of tax evasion and money laundering. This paved the way for the British government to order Bhandari’s extradition. District Judge Michael Snow, who heard the case at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London last year, ruled that there was no stay on Bhandari’s extradition and referred the matter to Indian-origin Home Minister Braverman.
