New Delhi. The Supreme Court said Thursday it will hear a plea on January 17, 2023 challenging WhatsApp’s policy of sharing user data with Facebook and others. The petition violated WhatsApp’s policy and was filed by two students who said sharing user data with Facebook or anyone else owned by the company violates their privacy and freedom of expression.

Justice K. A five-member constitutional bench headed by M. Joseph has asked all parties to present their arguments in the case before December 15. The bench also included Justice Ajay Rastogi, Justice Aniruddha Bose, Justice Hrishikesh Roy and Justice CT Ravikumar.

“We are filing this case for the final hearing on January 17, 2023,” the bank said. The court heard the petition filed by two students – Karmanya Singh Sareen and Shreya Sethi. The petition challenged the agreement between the two companies that asked users to share related information such as photos, video texts, documents, etc. According to the petition, this is a violation of the users’ privacy and freedom of expression.
