Noting that the current brand ambassador of the state’s tourism sector and Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan is “busy”, Banerjee requested the 40-year-old actor to take up the responsibility.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday ventured into politics from films and proposed actor-MP Deepak Adhikari, popularly known as ‘Dev’, as the new brand ambassador of the state’s tourism department. Noting that the current brand ambassador of the state’s tourism sector and Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan is “busy”, Banerjee requested the 40-year-old actor to take up the responsibility. Khan had accepted Banerjee’s offer to become the brand ambassador of West Bengal in 2012.
“We have Shahrukh (Khan),” Banerjee said while chairing a meeting of the Industrial Promotion Board (IPB) at Navanna Auditorium earlier in the day. He also made a video, but he is usually very busy. Dev you will do a bit of work as a brand ambassador for the tourism department. I will ask the tourism department to make him the new ambassador. Let Gautam Ghosh (film director) prepare a video on tourism and Dev, along with others, will promote it.” Surprised by the request, Dev said that he was privileged to be chosen for the role. The Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha member from Ghatal in West Midnapore district said, “I was quite surprised when the proposal came to me. I am excited with the decision and will try to perform to the best of my abilities.
