Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday said that the GST Council has accepted the Group of Ministers (GoM) report on Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) with some changes and the final draft amendments will be sent to state finance ministers for their comments. The GoM on GSTAT was constituted in July last year under the chairmanship of Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala.

The committee recommended that the tribunals should be headed by a retired judge of the Supreme Court, with two judicial members from the Center and the states, and a member from the technical department. After the 49th meeting of the GST Council was over, Sitharaman told reporters that the report of the GoM on setting up of GSTAT was accepted with some changes.

It will be shared with the states on Sunday and after that a final draft will be prepared to set up the tribunal. Sitharaman said that since the GST Council does not have much time to meet again, it has authorized the Speaker to take a final look and include it in the Finance Bill.
