Irani Trophy: Rest of India’s team announced for Irani Trophy, Vihari gets captain’s armband, Umran’s place

New Delhi: The All India Senior Selection Committee on Wednesday announced the 16-man Rest of India roster for the Irani Cup 2022 game against Saurashtra. Command has been handed over to Indian testing specialist, batsman Hanuma Vihari. This match against Ranji Trophy 2019-20 champion Saurashtra will be played from October 1-5 at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot. After Saurashtra became Ranji champion in 2019-20, this match could not be played due to the lockdown due to Kovid-19.

The tournament returns after three years, which was canceled due to the pandemic. According to a release released by the Secretary of the Cricket Board of India (BCCI), Jay Shah, apart from Vihari, the team has a good mix of experienced and young batsmen in the form of Mayank Agarwal, Priyank Panchal, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Yash Dhul, Sarfaraz Khan, Yashasvi Jaiswal. Yashasvi recently scored two double centuries in three matches of the Duleep Trophy.

KS Bharat and Upendra Yadav have been included in the team as wicket keepers. In the spin division, the focus is on Jayant Yadav, Saurabh Kumar and Arsai Kishore, while Mukesh Kumar, Umran Malik, Kuldeep Sen and Arjan Nagwaswal are included in the team as fast bowlers.
