Abhinav Bindra was educated at The Doon School for two years before moving to Chandigarh. He started taking an interest in photography while he was studying at school. When his parents saw his passion for shooting, they built a shooting range at home so that he could more easily practice. Since childhood, he began to try his hand at shooting, which later turned out to be very beneficial to him.

Abhinav Bindra took part in the 1998 Commonwealth Games at the age of 15. At that time, he became the youngest competitor. Though the age was short, the spirit was great. His greatest success came when he won the bronze medal at the 2001 World Championships in Munich with a new world record for juniors of 597/600. He was also honored with the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in the same year.
