Asteroids, also known as asteroids, come close to our Earth from time to time. Although this year is a little different. This year the number of asteroids coming near the Earth has increased. Many days two-three asteroids are passing near our earth and on Thursday-Friday about 5 asteroids had a close encounter with our planet. According to the American space agency NASA, ‘Asteroid 2022 QH8’ was the biggest rocky disaster that came close to our planet in the last 24 hours. This 160 feet wide asteroid was the size of a commercial plane. It traveled at a speed of about 55 thousand kilometers per hour. When it came closest to the Earth, then the distance between the two was only around 2.5 million kilometers.

According to the information, ‘Asteroid 2022 SG’, which was 140 feet in size, passed close to the Earth from a distance of 1.7 million kilometers on Thursday. Three other asteroids – 2022 SG3, 2022 ST1 and 2022 SK1 – also came close to our planet. All these came to know about this year itself. According to experts, the most worrying of all these asteroids was ‘Asteroid 2022 QH8’. If it deviates a bit from its path and turns towards the earth, it can bring great destruction.

That’s why scientists monitor asteroids until they go far away from the Earth’s atmosphere. Asteroid 2022 QH8 belongs to the Apollo group, which are located in the Main Asteroid Belt near Jupiter. It was discovered on 29 August 2022. It takes about 1395 days to complete one orbit around the Sun. Its maximum distance from the Sun is 613 million km and the closest contact is at 118 million km.

Asteroids are also called minor planets. Just as all the planets of our solar system revolve around the Sun, similarly the asteroids also revolve around the Sun. Asteroids are rocky remnants left over from the early formation of our Solar System about 4.6 billion years ago. Scientists have so far detected more than 11 lakh 13 thousand 527 asteroids.
