Muslim houses and a mosque were pelted with stones during a procession by Hindu organizations and Kuruba (a community) organizations in Karnataka’s Haveri district, triggering communal tension in the area on Tuesday. Police detained 15 people and brought the tense situation under control. Hindu organizations were taking out a bike rally on Tuesday with the statue of revolutionary Sangolli Rayanna. When the procession passed through a Muslim locality, some miscreants pelted stones at houses and a mosque.
Haveri Superintendent of Police (SP) Shivakumar told India Today that the bike rally was peaceful but some miscreants pelted stones when it came close to a mosque. There was police deployment during the procession and the situation was brought under control immediately. SP Shivakumar said that deployment of police officers during the procession would make it easier to identify criminals.
