Islamabad : Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and Imran Khan’s close aide Fawad Chaudhary has been arrested from his residence. He publicly condemned the government for plotting to arrest former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan. Pakistani media has given this information by quoting PTI leaders. Islamabad Police has confirmed the arrest. A case was registered against Chowdhury at Kohsar police station in Islamabad following a complaint by Umar Hameed, secretary of the Election Commission of Pakistan.

According to Geo TV, Fawad’s arrest came amid a mob of PTI workers who had gathered at Imran Khan’s residence to ensure his safety. PTI leader Farooq Habib said in a tweet, “The imported government has gone mad.” He also posted videos on social media. According to the report, Islamabad police sources said that the PTI leader was arrested from his residence near Thokar Niaz Beg in Lahore.

Several PTI leaders condemned the arrest of Fawad Chaudhary. Rumors of Imran Khan’s arrest spread in the early hours of Wednesday, following which a large number of party leaders and workers reached his residence in Lahore. PTI wrote on its official Twitter handle, ‘There are reports that the puppet government will try to arrest Imran Khan tonight.’ Supporters raised slogans and expressed their anger towards the government.

Talking to the media before the arrest, Fawad Chaudhary targeted the Shahbaz government. He termed those involved in the alleged conspiracy as traitors. Chaudhary said, ‘If the police have courage, they should come and arrest Imran Khan.’ Another party leader Hammad Azhar claimed that the government was working to create an atmosphere for the arrest of Imran Khan.
