The red-headed vulture or Asian king vulture is listed as a critically endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The Asian king vulture has been sighted in Dudhwa after many years, which is very encouraging, Prabhakar said.

Lakhimpur Kheri. A red-headed vulture has been sighted in the South Sonaripur range of Dudhwa National Park (DNP). It is also known as ‘Asian King Vulture’. Regional Director of DTR B. Prabhakar told ‘PTI-Bhasha’ that a few days ago biologist Vipin Kumar recorded this bird in his camera and informed the park administration about it. The red-headed vulture or Asian king vulture is listed as a critically endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

The Asian king vulture has been sighted in Dudhwa after many years, which is very encouraging, Prabhakar said. He informed that a vulture breeding center has also been set up in Maharajganj district for the protection and conservation of endangered vulture species. He said that vultures eat dead animals and thus they clean the environment.
