The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh is organizing the Banjara Mahakumbh at a time when special attention is being given to the tribal communities in view of the Lok Sabha elections to be held in 2024 and the upcoming assembly elections in some states this year.
New Delhi. The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is organizing a six-day ‘Banjara Mahakumbh’ focusing on nomadic castes from Wednesday in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon. Sangh officials expect an estimated 10 lakh people to participate in the event. The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh is organizing the Banjara Mahakumbh at a time when special attention is being given to the tribal communities in view of the Lok Sabha elections to be held in 2024 and the upcoming assembly elections in some states this year. An RSS functionary said that senior RSS pracharak Suresh Bhaiyyaji Joshi, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis would participate in the programme.
According to officials involved in the preparations for the Mahakumbh, the conference is being organized by the missionaries as part of efforts to reach out to the people of the Banjara community along with spreading awareness against the growing cases of religious conversions. The importance of organizing this Mahakumbh increases when assembly elections are about to be held in states like Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana where people of this community live in large numbers. Sangh official said that more than 10 lakh people from nomadic castes like God Banjara, Labna and Naikda are expected to participate in this Mahakumbh. A senior RSS pracharak said that people of this community from Maharashtra and Goa would also participate in the conference.
He told that saints and eminent people of the nomadic castes are reaching out to these communities and inviting them to participate in the Mahakumbh. Elaborate arrangements are being made for their stay. He said that for the last few years the Christian missionaries were misleading the Banjara community and converting them. The youth of Banjara community and 3000 RSS volunteers are engaged in the preparations for this Mahakumbh for the last two months. It is being organized in an area of 500 acres in Godri village of Jalgaon.
