Counsel for Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Raut told a special court on Tuesday that there is no evidence linking the MP (Rout) to alleged irregularities in the redevelopment of Patra Chawl in the Mumbai suburb.
Counsel for Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Raut told a special court on Tuesday that there is no evidence linking the MP (Rout) to alleged irregularities in the redevelopment of Patra Chawl in the Mumbai suburb. The Special Anti-Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court heard the arguments of Raut’s counsel Ashok Mundargi. The court adjourned the hearing on Raut’s bail request to October 10 after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) sought time to present its arguments.
Raut was arrested in August in a money laundering case related to the redevelopment of Patra Chawl. The ED investigation is linked to alleged financial irregularities in Patra Chawl’s redevelopment and the transaction of financial assets involving Raut’s wife and alleged associates. Located in Goregaon, North Mumbai, Siddharth Nagar is known as Patra Chawl. Located in an area of more than 47 hectares, there are about 672 houses in this place.
The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) had in 2008 entrusted the chawl redevelopment project to Guru Ashish Constructions Private Limited (GACPL), a subsidiary of Housing Development and Infrastructure Limited. GACPL would build 672 flats for the people there and flats for MHADA and sell the remaining land to a private developer for GACPL’s own development works. According to the prosecutor, the company has not redeveloped Patra Chawl or built flats, which would be transferred to MHADA. Instead, the plots were sold to other builders for Rs 1034 crore.
