Aftab Amin Poonawala killed his live-in partner Shraddha due to his craze in the case of Shraddha Walker’s murder in Delhi’s Mehrauli area. After killing Shraddha, Aftab cut her dead body into 35 pieces, which after keeping them in the freeze for three days, were placed in the localities.

The Delhi Police has said in its charge sheet that Aftab Poonawalla killed his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar because she had gone to meet some other friend on the day of the incident and because of this he was very angry. Police on Tuesday filed a 6,629-page charge sheet against Poonawalla in the Shraddha murder case in the Saket court here, which extended his judicial custody by two weeks till February 7.

In the charge sheet, the police have said that the accused used various types of weapons to cut the body of Walkar and some of them have been recovered. Addressing a press conference, Joint Commissioner of Police (South) Meenu Chowdhary said that the police have recorded statements of 150 witnesses to strengthen their case and Poonawala has been booked under sections 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 201 (causing destruction of evidence of offence). Chowdhary said that on the day of the incident, Walkar had gone to meet a friend, which did not go down well with Poonawalla, following which he turned violent and carried out the incident.

As per the charge sheet, Mehrauli police station received a missing report of Shraddha Vikas Walkar from Maharashtra Police, following which a missing report was registered at Mehrauli police station and the victim’s father was interrogated. Poonawalla and Walkar were last seen in a rented house in Mehrauli area. Poonawalla was interrogated on that basis and subsequently arrested on 12 November. Nine teams and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by DCP (South) were also constituted during the investigation.

The team was also sent to several places in Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Delhi and Gurugram in Haryana. During the inquiry it was also found that the body parts were dismembered and several search teams were constituted. The charge sheet states that on the instance of the accused, a search was conducted in the Mehrauli forest area of ​​Chhattarpur and the police recovered some bones. Chowdhary said that we used scientific methods and during investigation, FSL, CFSL and crime team inspected the spot. Blood samples and bone tests were done and DNA tests were also done. Investigations using the advanced technique of DNA mitochondrial profiling were also carried out in Hyderabad. A separate dedicated team was formed to install the CCTV footage.

Police said several digital evidence including mobile phones, cameras and laptops, call detail records and GPS location were examined. The DCP said that we have circumstantial evidence. We have witnesses and digital and forensic evidence. All the tests that were done support our investigation. Poonawalla is accused of strangulating his ‘live-in partner’ Walkar to death in May last year and dismembering her body and disposing of it in different parts of the city for several days.
