Sensex fell 609 points in early trading in stock markets

Mumbai, Sept 28 (PTI) The Sensex lost nearly 609 points on Wednesday as it opened trading amid a weak trend in Asian markets and outflows from foreign funds. Nifty also refused.

The 30-share BSE Sensex fell 608.8 points to 56,498.72 points. NSE Nifty lost 182 points at 16,825.40.

NTPC, IndusInd Bank, HDFC, Axis Bank, Reliance Industries, ITC, HDFC Bank and Asian Paints were among the big losers in the Sensex.

On the other hand, Sun Pharma, Mahindra & Mahindra, Dr. Reddy’s and Power Grid with winnings.

Asian markets, Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong, among others, traded in losses. US stocks closed on Tuesday with a mixed trend.

In the previous trading session, the 30-stock Sensex closed at 57,107.52 Tuesday, down 37.70 points or 0.07 percent. The National Stock Exchange’s Nifty closed at 17.007.40 points, down 8.90 points, or 0.05 percent, marginally.

Meanwhile, the international oil benchmark Brent oil fell 1.25 percent to $85.19 a barrel.

Foreign institutional investors sold shares worth Rs 2,823.96 crore on Tuesday, according to preliminary stock market data.
