Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Thursday launched ‘Dijiyatra’, a facial recognition facility for airline passengers to access the airport in the national capital. Through ‘DigiAtra’, passengers can access airports paperlessly and passenger details are automatically verified at various checkpoints using facial recognition. The same system will also work in areas with security checks. The paperless facility was launched on Thursday in Delhi and at Varanasi and Bengaluru airports. To make use of this option, passengers must register on the ‘DigiAtra’ app and provide their details.

Verification takes place via Aadhaar and the passenger will also have to take his photo. At the airport e-gate, the passenger must first scan the barcoded boarding pass and then the ‘facial recognition’ system installed there will verify the passenger’s identity and travel document. After this process, the passenger can enter the airport through the e-gate.
